Clinical Focus

My clinical practice focuses on couples, families and individuals who have been or currently are impacted by substance abuse, family conflict and life-stage transitions. I also focus on helping my clients examine family patterns and rituals, roles and boundaries, anger management issues and conflict resolution skills.

Substance Abuse

Substance Use/Abuse

As a substance abuse specialist, I can provide substance use assessments, referrals and individual, family or couples counseling for those impacted by the substance use of a loved one.

Common Questions

How Private is Therapy?

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist. No information cannot be disclosed without the client’s written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.

What is Therapy Like?

Therapy can vary greatly depending on the individual and the goals of the clinician and the patient. I will want to discuss the events that lead you to seek therapy in the first place and move on to resolving more specific goals in collaboration with you. Our sessions will be scheduled weekly and will last 55 minutes.

Therapy can be focused on a singular issue or focus on addressing overarching personal issues and working on emotional growth. To help achieve this, I might suggest books, activities, or keeping a personal journal.
